Capstone Script
We hear every day about the thousands U.S. soldiers killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. But those numbers only tell half the story. Most people don't realize that death or physical injury are not the only consequences of war. Sometimes, the soldiers’ combat experiences are emotionally devastating enough to develop into disorders such as Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder. 12.5% of all veterans suffered from PTSD in the Iraq War alone. The victim experiences recurring memories of their frightening ordeal which can lead to depression and isolation. In many cases, the victims (some of whom are in their 20's) take their own life. This remains one of the fastest growing issues in our society today. Yet, unfortunately, it is also one of the most overlooked. But you CAN make a difference. I strongly urge viewers to contact their government representatives and ask them to support funding for veterans fighting PTSD.

My Project
Every day, whether it is on FOX News or in The New York Times, we hear about the deaths and casualties of American soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan. It is important, however, to realize that death is not the only consequence of war. In many cases, soldiers suffer traumatic experiences that can lead to disorders such as PTSD. This project will focus on helping veterans combat this disease as well as depression by creating a comprehensive system (that will be implemented nationwide) to rebuild veterans’ lives, to help them forget their past, and to make them a useful part of the community.
This project relates to the goal of Social Equity and Justice.
